Coco de Mer's Shibari Salon

Amidst the quickly dimming streets of Covent Garden, tucked in the boutiques of Seven Dials, one shop window had yet to turn out its warm lights, inviting in contrast to the chill of the October air. Here, in the Coco de Mer Boutique, you have the exquisite luxury of escaping the night for a couple of hours and enjoying the thrill of their most salaciously tempting evenings of education- combining a spot of free bubbly, some divine discounted shopping, and the insights of one of their hosts.

It was on this particular evening that I was invited to attend their salon "Entwined: The Art Of Rope Bondage", hosted by Mistress Scarlet.

The atmosphere in the boutique after hours was entirely more exciting with the other attendees- mostly couples- buzzing with anticipation (and their first glass of Prosecco), browsing the array of luxury erotic products leisurely while awaiting the arrival of their host for the evening. Thanks to the restrictions of Covid the class size was small and chairs were spread across the back of the boutique to maintain social distancing- something that I feel was actually rather comforting when you consider the perceived intimacy of a rope bondage class full of strangers. After a short while Mistress Scarlet made her entrance and the group rushed to find their seats with only slight reluctance to be sat in the front row for all to see.

While I am unable to disclose the details of the salon entirely, I can detail that this class was spectacularly hands-on with each technique being demonstrated, often accompanied by Mistress Scarlet's personal tales of debauchery and kinky lifestyle, before being practiced by the group on their partners for an amount of time that allowed a sense of real mastery that you don't get from an online tutorial. Having Mistress Scarlet there to advise, especially with such a small group, made the experience feel extremely personalised and, as the bubbles continued to fill everyone's glasses, encouragement amongst the group and general cheerful chitchat filled the room.

As someone who already had some interest in Shibari the class still proved to be useful for reinforcing my understanding of basic ties up to some harness work and I'd definitely recommend it highly for those looking to dip a toe into the art of rope bondage and, speaking to Mistress Scarlet after the class, it seemed to me that it was a great way to connect with her if you were looking for further classes which she offers privately for those looking to learn more advanced techniques.

After a couple of hours which seemed to escape us all too quickly you are left with time to further explore the curiosities of the boutique, chatting away to other couples or store staff and making your discounted purchases before everyone began to disappear once again into the cool night air. Heading home from the class had the surreal vibe that you'd get leaving an open evening of your school which felt bizarre after hours or a late night viewing at the cinema where the world had entirely changed colour in your absence- but then again that could have been the Prosecco.

Overall I'd highly recommend the experience, be it this class in particular or exploring their other Salons to find something more interesting to your personal desires. It would make a fun yet slightly naughty feeling evening activity with a partner, close friend, or even alone and, with the Prosecco already warming you up, would be great as a starting point for a night of cocktails (once we are no longer under a curfew).
